One step at a time...
The journey ahead will not be easy. In the coming months our dogs and people will be needed more than ever. As keen as we are to move forward, careful planning will be required to ensure the safety of our volunteers and the people they visit. To start, PAWS is now a COVID safe business with a comprehensive and workable COVID-19 management plan in place.
At PAWS we pride ourselves on the strong and successful bonds we have developed with the facilities we visit. Not only clients they are also part of the PAWS family. Each of these facilities have been requested to complete a Recommencement Survey which outlines their current infection control policy. For the reassurance of our clients, PAWS volunteers have also completed a recommencement survey, undertaken the HHA Hand Washing Course and provided certification for the Australian Government Department of Health, COVID-19 Infection Control Training. As an added safety precaution our volunteers will also be required to wear a face mask for visits until further notice. This is all on top of our already stringent health standards.
We thank all of our facilities for their support and encouragement. We know you want us back...and we will be as soon and safely as possible.
And of course we couldn't do it without our volunteers, the dedicated and hardworking people and dogs who have been having a break from their PAWS duties. They haven't however had a break from COVID-19. Like our dogs, our volunteers are all ages, come from different backgrounds and have faced the same stresses that you and I have. We are particularly mindful that returning to visits requires confidence on the behalf of our teams. These are uncertain times so at PAWS we are doing everything within our control to make visiting safe for everyone involved.
With all this in mind we are very excited to announce that our first teams have recommenced visits. Our training and assessment days are starting again in a modified format and we are receiving many new enquiries from people interested in starting their volunteering careers with us. We also have some exciting news, PAWS is introducing home visits. The hardest reality about COVID has been that the people who have needed us the most have been missing out. The elderly, house bound and vulnerable members of our community can now have a visit by a friendly dog and their caring owner.
The future is looking bright and doggy. We can't wait to share it with you.
We will be with you soon,
